What animals can be gay? Does homsexuality amongst sharks exist?

A homosexual shark would be amazing. What about dinosaurs, could they be gay?

Dinosaurs… hmmm well they were quite ‘butch’ but it could be why they were extinct!

Ducks can be gay. Apparently if the first thing they see is a male duck rather than their mother, they can become homosexual.

I am aware that earthworm is one animal who is hermaphrodite i.e. has both male and female reproductive parts in one individual…not sure about gayism among animals…by the way are animals this much rational than us to decide sexual preferences.
Technically, sex is an activity to reproduce. this explains that why most of animals have mating seasons. I read somewhere that only humans and dolphins can mate all round the year, means they do sex for pleasure (apart from reproduction) and this as well explains why there are homosexual preferences among humans. not sure about dolphins though. and no idea about sharks either. I just tried to answer the phenomenon.

I read somewhere that homosexual behaviour has been reported in animals of most species, as has asexual behaviour.

Probably any animal that needs to copulate in order to procreate. While I’m on the topic, did you know that for monkey’s sodomy is as culturally acceptable as shaking hands is for us? Particularly if something exciting is happening.

I have answered this question in detail many times. Please search Answers for those replies.

Only one animal is homosexual, Homo sapiens. People that know very little about animal behavior see something the think is same sex behavior and call it homosexuality. An animals prime directive is to survive, it’s second directive is to reproduce. An animal does not waste time and energy having sex with out a definite outcome: recruitment. Without recruitment there are no new individuals to replace the older generation.

Dominance behavior. There are all kinds of ways animals show dominance over others of the same species. During the mating season of waterfowl. A subordinate male may attempt sex with a dominate males female. The dominate male might “mount” the subordinate male as a show of dominance. It is mating season, this is the way dominance is shown during mating season. It is NOT homosexuality. This behavior is only seen during mating season. Other times of the year the dominates male have pull tail feathers or splash water on a sub-dominate.

Homosexual shark? Why in the world is that amazing? It is completely illogical.

The bonobo chimp is a very sexual animal. Instead of being male dominated like other chimp societies, the bonobo is a matriacal society (female dominated) and they have sex not just for reproductive reasons, but for social reasons and enjoyment. They have sex in a variety of positions, including face-to-face, which is unique in the animal kingdom, apart from ourselves.
    They are also bi-sexual.

all mammals can be gay, sharks however are fish, and don’t have external sexual organs. i do however know dogs have been known to do anal and hedgehogs have been known to engage in sophisticated oral sex (hedgehogs have the highest lesbian rate of all land mammals)
